COOKIE POLICY · EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 2, 2026

Cookie Policy and what you decide for yourself.

This page explains how humansmatter.org uses cookies and similar technologies: what they are, why we need them and how you decide what ends up on your device. How we handle your data overall is described in our privacy policy.
THE BASICS

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your computer or phone when you visit it. They keep a site working, let it remember your settings and show us how it is used. Session cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay for a set period or until you delete them yourself.

Besides cookies there are similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage. They work in much the same way, so everything here applies to them as well.

YOUR CHOICE

How to manage your cookie settings

On your first visit, the site shows a banner where you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your decision at any time through the cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Essential cookies cannot be switched off, because the site does not work without them.

If you restrict cookies, some content stops working, embedded videos for example.

BROWSER

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every common browser lets you decide how it handles cookies. You can reject cookies, delete the ones already stored or get a notice before a new one is set. Where to find the setting depends on the browser:

  • Google Chrome: Open Settings and go to “Privacy and security”, then to the cookie settings. There you can block third-party cookies, have cookies deleted when you close the browser or block all cookies.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Open Settings and go to “Privacy & Security”. Under “Cookies and Site Data” you decide how Firefox handles cookies, delete stored data and manage exceptions.
  • Safari: Open Settings, switch to the “Privacy” tab and choose which cookies to block. Safari can also prevent cross-site tracking.
  • Microsoft Edge: Open Settings and go to “Privacy, search, and services”. In the cookies section you can block third-party cookies or all cookies and manage exceptions.
SAYING NO

What happens if you reject cookies

If you reject cookies, some parts of this website will not work as intended. Your settings are not kept beyond your visit, for example, and some embedded content stays blocked. If you also block essential cookies in your browser, parts of the site may not work at all.

Rejecting analytics cookies does not change anything about the core functions of the website. We just lose the numbers that show us what works on the site and what does not.

UPDATES

Changes to this cookie policy

We update this policy when something changes in the technology, the law or our services. The current version is always on this page, with the date of the last update. The cookie list above keeps itself up to date.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Questions about cookies on humansmatter.org

Do you set cookies before I agree?

Only the essential ones the site cannot work without, for spam protection or to remember your cookie choice, for example. We set functional, analytics and marketing cookies only after you agree.

How do I change my decision later?

Through the cookie settings at the bottom of every page. There you can switch individual categories on or off as often as you like.

Why does the list include other domains such as tidycal.com or hcaptcha.com?

Some features come from services we embed: TidyCal for booking appointments, hCaptcha and reCAPTCHA against spam in forms, YouTube for embedded videos. These services set their cookies under their own domain.

What do you use analytics cookies for?

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity show us which pages people read and where they get stuck. If you reject them, the site works just the same.

Where can I find out more about what happens to my data?

In our privacy policy. It explains which data we process and what rights you have.
